New Disaster Management Committee in Portsmouth

After years of inactivity, the District Development Officer Steve Joseph, in collaboration with the Portsmouth Town Council and the Office of Disaster Management, has initiated the formation of a new disaster management committee in Portsmouth.

At a meeting on Thursday July 30 2009 held at the Roosevelt Douglas Primary School, volunteers agreed in the following format for the composition of the new committee.

Key Member Groups & Organizations:
Parliamentary Representative
Police
Fire
Public Works & Heavy Equipment Operators
Ross University
Hospital
Marine Workers/Boat Owners

The following sub committees were agreed upon:
Education & Training
Shelter Management
Communication
Transportation
Damage Assessment & Reconstruction
Relief Distribution

The general public is invited to serve on this very important committee and participate in one of the sub committees.

The next meeting where elections will be held and sub committee members selected will be held on Thursday August 6, 2009.

An open invitation is extended to all.
